Are you a current Chase customer or considering opening an account in the future? If so, you should take a close look at the different accounts the bank offers and what fees you can expect. Doing so can help you avoid unexpected costs and penalties in the future.

Personal Checking Account Fees at Chase

Chase has a variety of accounts available, each of which offers banking services with different fees. Some have additional requirements you’ll have to meet to enjoy the lowest fee structure or to open that account in the first place. Determining what your daily needs will be for your checking account will help you choose the Chase account that is right for you based on their terms and fees.

Here’s everything you need to know about these Chase checking account fees.

Chase Total Checking®

Chase Total Checking, Chase’s most popular account for everyday banking, has a monthly service fee of $12 but offers $0 monthly service fees if you meet certain minimum balance requirements or have sufficient electronic deposits set up.** There’s also a potential overdraft fee of $34 per transaction when your account is overdrawn by more than $50.* However, you can only incur three overdraft fees per business day.

There is no fee to use Chase ATMs, but using non-Chase ATMs will amount to a service fee of $3 or $5 depending on location. Wire transfer fees range from $0 to $50 depending on whether it is an incoming or outgoing wire and the currency you use to send the wire transfer. Money orders have a fee of $5 per check.

Chase Premier Plus Checking

The Premier Plus Checking account increases the monthly service fee to $25. However, there are exceptions for certain daily balances, having a Chase mortgage, or being a current U.S. service member or veteran. The same $34 overdraft fee as the Chase Total Checking account applies.

This account offers free use of Chase ATMs and provides an additional four free non-Chase ATM transactions for each statement period. After that, you can expect the same $3 to $5 fee as offered by Total Checking.

The fee for wire transfers ranges from $0 to $50. However, money orders are available for free with this account type.

Chase Sapphire Checking

Chase Sapphire Checking has a $25 monthly service fee. However, this premium account waives the fee if you have an average daily balance of $75,000 or more in any combination of linked accounts or investments. Unfortunately, you’ll still face the same $34 overdraft fee if you overdraw the account.

This account offers a variety of services for free, including wire transfers and money orders. You’ll also enjoy no-fee cashier’s checks, counter checks, stop payments, debit card replacement and more.

Chase First Banking

The Chase First Banking Account was designed to be the first bank account for children ages 6 to 17. The parent actually owns the account and must already be an existing Chase checking customer. The account has no monthly service fee, regardless of other conditions.

Chase First Banking Accounts allow for free use of Chase ATMs, while the $3 to $5 fee still applies for any non-Chase ATMs. Many other fees don’t apply to the Chase First Banking account, as it is limited in its capabilities. For example, wire transfers simply aren’t available.

Chase High School Checking

Chase High School Checking is another account option for students aged 13 to 17. Parents can open these accounts for their children, acting as co-owners and requiring a link to an existing Chase checking account. There’s no monthly service fee, but the account automatically transitions to a Chase Total Checking account after the student turns 19.

The High School Checking account offers more features than the First Banking account and therefore has several more fees, including Chase’s standard overdraft wire transfer and money order fees.

Chase College Checking

Chase College Checking provides an affordable checking option for post-secondary students. The monthly fee is $12, and the bank waives the fee entirely if the account holder is still within their expected graduation date, has set up electronic deposits, or meets daily balance requirements.

Aside from the monthly service fee, the Chase College Checking account is nearly identical to a Total Checking account. Chase ATMs are free to use, while non-Chase ATMs will incur a fee between $3 and $5. Money orders are $5 per check, the overdraft fee is $34, and wire transfers range from $0 to $50.

Chase Secure Checking

If you want an account with minimal fees, then Chase Secure Checking may be for you. It lets account holders avoid a wide range of fees, although some services and products are limited as well. The monthly service fee is just $4.95, with no minimum deposit requirements. This secure option avoids overdraft fees by only letting account holders spend what they already have.

There is no fee for money orders or cashier’s checks. Account holders have free access to Chase ATMs but still pay the $3 to $5 fee for non-Chase ATMs.

Chase Private Client Checking

The Chase Private Client Checking account is a premier account with priority service that offers many services without fees. There is a $35 monthly service fee, but the bank will waive this fee for accounts carrying a daily balance of $150,000 or more.

Use of Chase and non-Chase ATMs is free. Incoming and outgoing wire transfers, money orders, cashier’s checks, and most overdrafts are also free.

Chase Business Checking

In addition to their personal accounts, Chase also offers several business checking accounts. Here’s what you can expect from Chase checking account fees for your business.

Chase Business Complete Banking

The Chase Business Complete Banking account has a monthly service fee of $15. However, there are a variety of minimum balance, purchase, or deposit exceptions that can reduce the fee to $0.

There are a variety of additional services that can incur further fees. Chase QuickDeposit is one such example, with a monthly maintenance fee of $25 to $50 and a cancellation fee of $250 in certain cases.

Chase Performance Business Checking

There is a monthly service fee of $30 for Chase Performance Business Checking. Account holders can avoid this fee by maintaining a daily balance of $35,000 or more. You’ll have up to 250 free debit and non-electronic deposits, after which a fee of $0.40 per transaction applies. There are unlimited electronic deposits with no fee.

The first $20,000 in monthly cash deposits have no additional fee. Incoming wires are free of charge. However, only the first two outgoing domestic wires are free, after which standard fees apply.

Chase Platinum Business Checking

The Chase Platinum Business Checking account has a monthly service fee of $95. To waive this fee, account holders can either maintain a daily balance of $100,00 or maintain a daily balance of $50,000 and link to a Chase Private Client Checking account.

Up to $25,000 cash deposits are available each statement cycle with no additional fee. Incoming wires are free, along with the four most expensive outgoing wires for each cycle. The first 500 debits and non-electronic deposits per cycle are free, with additional transactions being $0.40. Chase Platinium Business Checking accounts can get a single-feed scanner with no monthly service fee.

Choosing the Right Chase Checking Account For You

Each of these Chase checking accounts offers banking services under different free structures to provide suitable accounts for anyone. Consider how often you visit the ATM, write checks, and require other services to find the perfect checking account for your needs.

*With Chase Overdraft Assist SM , Chase won’t charge an insufficient funds fee if you’re overdrawn by $50 or less at the end of the business day, or if you’re overdrawn by more than $50 and you bring your account balance to overdrawn by $50 or less at the end of the next business day (you have until 11 p.m. ET, or 8 p.m. PT, to make a deposit or transfer). Chase Overdraft Assist does not require enrollment and comes with eligible Chase checking accounts.

**The monthly fee for Chase Total Checking is $12 or $0 with one of the following, each monthly statement period: Electronic deposits made into this account totaling $500 or more, such as payments from payroll providers or government benefit providers, by using (i) the ACH network, (ii) the Real Time Payment or FedNow SM network, (iii) third party services that facilitate payments to your debit card using the Visa® or Mastercard® network, OR a balance at the beginning of each day of $1,500 or more in this account, OR an average beginning day balance of $5,000 or more in any combination of this account and linked qualifying Chase checking, savings, and other balances.
